Reading at Tollgate

Reading is the gateway to learning and therefore it is very important that your child reads at home as well as in school. Every child should be reading for at least 10 minutes a day alongside their other homework activities. Records of children reading should be entered into the reading journal on a daily basis and signed by an adult.

Reading together at home is one of the easiest but most important ways in which you can help your child. As you share books you are helping improve your child’s reading skills and also showing them how important and enjoyable reading is. We have a diverse range of books to support your child’s reading within the school, and this will enable your child to experience a range of authors and styles of books including non-fiction and poetry.

Examples of some of the books in our reading curriculum can be found below.
